Aspects Of Planning A Biker Funeral Including A Motorcycle Hearse In Portland

By Allyson Burke

The loss of a loved on is a terrible thing. In addition to dealing with the sadness of having them gone from your life you have the unenviable task of having to choose a memorial that best fits who they were as a person in life. For those who choose to life the biker lifestyle, the rituals of death are more complex and tradition filled than many other subcultures. For those who are planning a biker funeral there are a lot of special considerations to take into mind. For one of those, the use of a motorcycle hearse Portland offers options.

If the biker in question is also a member of a riding group then there may be additional considerations to keep in mind. If they are a member of an "outlaw" or one percenter motorcycle club then there will also be special traditions and needs that are established by the culture and by-laws of the brotherhood that they are a part of. These needs may not be fully understood by those in the outside world but they are to the heart of the biker culture.

One tradition that is universal to all bikers is the placing of the riding boots between the feet of the biker right before the casket is closed. They should also be filled with small amounts of dirt as s symbol of "long-journeys coming to an end". This is often done by the club member or family member closest to the biker in life.

Pal bearers are often club brothers or riding buddies, dressed in "dress" gear. Club officers will be responsible for the sealing of the casket when the time comes. If a motorcycle hearse is used then the man closest to the deceased is often the rider of the bike.

Biker funerals are more about the coming together to celebrate life than they are gathering to mourn. Most of the time, they resemble big parties with music and drinking. The dearly departed are often considered the guest of honour. The gathered celebrate the fact that he has moved onto a better place where the roads are always clear and the weather is always perfect to ride.

These type of funerals may be planned out with activities over several days. It is not uncommon for them to be planed over three or four day weekends and to include poker games, bonfires and memorial rides in the departed's name. For bikers this is not a time for sorrow this is a time to remember and to gather to celebrate the life that was lived and the journeys that were taken with the deceased.

It is not uncommon for bikers to be buried in full gear with their club vest or riding vest draped over the casket in the manner a flag would be for a veteran. The biker motorcycle may be present in the service draped in black cloth as well. In many cases the keys are one of the last tings to be placed in the casket before it is closed and sealed.

While the planning of a biker funeral can be complicated, made even more so by the feelings that are swirling around the loss of the loved one, it is a necessity. This is a world that they loved to live in and they deserve the send off that is traditionally afforded to its members. The use of a motorcycle hearse Portland service is a wonderful touch that adds to the special nature of the services. It is one aspect of a much more ceremony filled time in the departed's life.
