How To Determine The Cost Of Heavy Equipment Rentals

By Halisse Enmma

When you say you need to rent heavy construction equipment, this means you would rent backhoes, huge dump trucks, front-end loaders, bulldozers, etc. Whether you are a contractor hired to do a building/renovation project or a property owner obsessed with DIY projects of any scale, when you can't afford to buy the heavy equipment you need, the most sensible thing to do is rent them especially if this is a one-time job, anyway.

Just because it is a one-time job does not mean that you would not concern yourself with making sure you are going to rent reliable pieces of equipment, regardless of the size of the building or renovation project. As such, you need to keep a few things in mind before you decide to rent anything. First of all, you need to identify the most common tasks to be done and identify the equipment needed for these tasks.

It is also important to look into the possibility of using these equipment for other similar tasks to further maximize one's budget. Be sure that you discuss this with the dealer you plan renting a skid steer from, for example, and determine if they would allow it, or if they can make similar suggestions that help you stretch the budget further without compromising the quality and efficiency of the work.

There are, of course, risks to using construction equipment other than its main purpose; you may very well be spending money but there is the possibility of the equipment not working as efficiently as you would like it to be or worse, the work may not be very at par with the quality standards your client has set. How much the equipment will cost to rent on a daily or weekly basis is another important piece of information you should look into, especially if you do not have much of a budget to work with. Usually, rental companies charge on a daily or weekly basis.

Make sure that you will discuss transport services with the dealers and try to negotiate for a reasonable fee. You can look into transport services offered by companies and websites such as Hertz Equip before you decide. Never rent any equipment that you are going to use more than a month especially if you need to rent bulldozers or dump trucks; it would be too expensive paying for these equipment on a daily or weekly basis and have them around for a year or so.

This also means you have to discuss with the rental provider about any services you may need when you rent the equipment. You also need to make sure that you are going to work with a legit and reliable rental company. You can determine if the rental company is trustworthy by checking out recommendations that were made about these companies before you hire them.
