By Heidi Carver

Sailing is a very excellent way of enjoying the fine weather along with your family. Since summer is drawing near, there is nothing better than being on board a boat and sailing off into the horizon. Just imagine having sunny days and cool nights on a boat, enjoying the beauty of life at sea. Well, this is dream summer activity is most definitely not impossible, as all you need is the perfect boat for you and your family and friends.

Water crafts come in all shapes and sizes. They come in all designs, according to their expected usage. Bass boats are used for fishing bass in fresh water. Bay boats are only for shallow waters. Dinghies have room enough only for two people, which makes it the best choice for couples who wish to have some alone time. Houseboats can accommodate an entire family. Cruisers are for overnight stay and power catamarans can set you up for days and even weeks at sea.

Catamarans are classified under power boats. These types of water vessels are of superior design and are very popular among boat lovers. There are two types of power boats, those that have one hull and those that have two or more.

The catamaran is a powerboat with two hulls. It looks very different from the usual vessels that we see, because it has two parallel hulls connected by a sleek frame. This type of craft is designed for comfort and total stability, though most boaters are not easily convinced of its safety. Before you scoff at catamarans and go on to find a safer looking ship, here are some of its advantages.

This boat offers unparalleled comfort. It does not heel like most monohulls, so it is more stable. They do not move back and forth in swells, so the people on board will enjoy their cruise more comfortably and with less chances of getting sea sick. The design also prevents sound from traveling from cabin to cabin, so utmost privacy can be expected.

It is maneuverable. Due to its light frame and unique design, cats are easier to move around and will not stress the boater out. Single hulled crafts need more room to be able to pivot successfully, but not this one. And because it has a thinner, more sleek center, cats can reach places that other crafts can not. All with ease, too.

Cats offer more space. Its two hulls allow you to bring more things as compared to boats that have only one hull. Aside from being spacious, everything in a catamaran is at eye level, so passengers do not have to go down dark cabins as with other water vessels.

They are obviously faster than other types. Whether power or sail, a catamaran can easily outrun any vessel in a race. This is also the reason why cats make excellent racing boats. It has two engines, so there is two times more power to run.

The only thing that puts most people off from owning a catamaran is its price. Cats are much more expensive among other types. But if you really wish to have one, surely there are a lot of boat dealers that offer excellent payment schemes to make having your dream craft a reality.
